OUR
PRODUCTION
TEAM
Welcome to Against Type Pictures. A fresh collaboration between writer/director Maxwell Cuprys and longtime friend/producer Thomas Hofbauer. We make films for our own bemusement and sometimes yours.
MAXWELL CUPRYS
Screenwriter/Director/Animator/Storyboard Artist
As a graduate of Columbia College of Chicago and a lover of film through and through, Max’s fondness for scriptwriting and storyboarding keeps him fixated on the pre-production aspect of filmmaking. Having written multiple screenplays including “A Shaky Fistful of Grandma”, “Voices from the Erdu”, and “Haulin’ Assassins” he has become a Semi-Finalist in multiple screenplay competitions including “Save the Cat”, “Slamdance” and “Page”.
However, his equal love for the craft of film and the camaraderie of working on crews allows him to toss one of his many hats in the ring on various film, commercial, and industrial productions.
In the past, he’s worked on many backstage positions with the Oregon Community Theater, ranging from stagehand to props master, and even stage manager. Max has helped on a multitude of stage shows. His favorites include “Of Mice and Men”, “The Producers”, and his personal favorite “Spamalot”.
Max would like to thank Thomas Hofbauer for all his continued support over the years, especially with getting this project up and running. Max wouldn't have ever gotten this far on his own. At the end of the day, all he hopes is that an audience is entertained by his work.
THOMAS HOFBAUER
Producer/Casting Director/Lead Actor
Tom has been working in the entertainment business for over 30 years as a comedian, actor, writer, and award-winning filmmaker. In addition to two independent films (“In the Company of Strangers” and “ADDICT”) which have screened at well over a dozen film festivals and have won the top award at ten of them, he also worked as a camera operator and location producer on the 2005 Oscar-nominated documentary, “Twist of Faith”, which was produced for HBO.
He has produced scores of commercials, industrial and training films, live theatrical events, improv shows and just about anything that has to do with entertainment and performance.
He loves the producing process and likens it to putting a 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle together but only being able to use 1000 pieces. That is a very fun process for him (most of the time). He loved the casting process for “The Funeral Derangements” and was excited to be asked onto this project by Max.
He looks forward to a long and fruitful association with the twisted mind that came up with this dark tale of funeral arrangements gone wrong.
